Winner: “Swan Lake” By Garry Everett
“Lake Mulwala is a place I like to photograph when visiting family in Australia,” explains Everett. “It’s located on the Murray River near Yarrawonga in Victoria and Mulwala in New South Wales (NSW).
“This image was taken at sunrise on the NSW side of the lake. The morning shoot had been rather uneventful, but as the sun made its appearance, a patch of fog drifted across the lake into the area I was photographing. The two black swans were feeding along the shoreline, and as the sun began interacting with the fog, it made me quickly change lenses from a wide angle to my telephoto. The final composition captures the trees and swans silhouetted against the dramatic sunrise light as it interacted with the fog to produce a peaceful but somewhat hauntingly beautiful scene.”
