7 DAYS BUSHCRAFT – CANOE SAIL, BAKER TENT, CAMPING, SUN LOUNGER, WILD ISLAND HOPPING, PITA SHOARMA

CAMPING FOOD
Bushcraft trip to remote islands wild camping for 7 days. As I set off on this camping trip I got caught by heavy rain and arrived late to my campsite, only peanuts for me that evening. I was too exhausted to cook, so I went straight to sleep. I spoiled myself the following day with a proper bush made pita shoarma cooked on a make shift rotisserie assisted by a moose bone. Delicious.
One of the most common questions I get about trips like this are how do I manage/store my food?
Generally this is not hot weather country. Even though this was filmed in June, I was getting only 4 Celcius one night. I bring most of the food frozen, and dunk it in a deep part of the lake or a cold water stream in the shade on a waterproof container. I also preserve some of it by smoking it or making jerky, salting it etc. Freshest food goes first. Works for me, most of the time…
My second small island campsite was Red Wood Ants territory. They were everywhere and there was a massive nest on site. They can be very aggressive and bite you if you hang around too long or disturb them, so usually I just move on to another campsite. I really liked this site, so I tried something different this time. Offering them some of my food, worked on me not being bitten once. I think we are mates for this season. We even enjoyed a didgeridoo session together by the fire.
The most fun I had on this trip was sailing fast across the lake and around the islands. That poncho of mine has so many uses it’s silly. This trip was filled with carving projects, exploring, reading and painting. I show you one of each on this trip, a spatula that I carved ( lost my old one on one of my last trips ) and a painting of a fallen tree that looked like a natural statue of sorts. Majestic yet fallen. I also painted my camps from different angles and the nature around me, but it was too much to share here. you will be able to check those works when I put them on my website, link below. Thanks for watching! – Ric
