RMEF Donates $1 Million With Wildfire Recovery in Mind

As hunters and explorers of the outdoors, we’ve seen the effect that wildfires can have on the lands that we walk. Thousands of acres of life can be extinguished in a matter of days. These fires happen every year, and every year starts new efforts to recover the decimated plant and animal populations. Fortunately, we have more help this year. The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation has committed over $1 million dollars toward wildfire recovery in multiple states.

“This commitment only solidifies RMEF’s ongoing strategic efforts dating back decades to enhance habitat for elk and a myriad of other wildlife species for their long-term betterment while also improving overall forest health,” said Kyle Weaver, RMEF president and CEO. “We greatly appreciate our partners at the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), Bureau of Land Management, state agencies, private landowners and other organizations for implementing actions that benefit, wildlife, hunters and others who enjoy the outdoors.”

The RMEF and its partners will be using this mass of money to repair affected areas in several states, including Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, New Mexico, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. Projects will include seeding, planting new trees and shrubs, and making sure the local wildlife has water. This will affect both private and public lands, and begin the recovery of the local animal populations.
